How to Root JiaYu G3 + working Recovery mode
The rooting of JY-G3 or JiaYu G3 has already been posted on the official JiaYu forum for quite some days already.
Original information was written in Chinese language, but its a good thing that we are able to translate it. I am rewriting here the steps so that many users can easily understand it.
Brief, the method is just simple. You just have to flash the working recovery for this JiaYu G3 (which is on Chinese) and then install the ROOT update via recovery.
Disclaimer: I wont be liable for any damage this procedure will cause on your device. This includes re-flashing the JiaYu G3 so do it at your own risk.
Steps on how to root JiaYu G3
Pre-requisites
- First, you must have the proper Android drivers installed on your computer. It wont just install by itself if you just plug the device on your PC. For this, I am recommending the use of pdaNet (just google it) so that you’ll easily get the drivers installed. Just be sure to “enable USB debugging” on the “Developer options” of the JY-G3, plug in your device on the PC then install the pdaNet.exe, choosing “Others” when prompted for device model.
- Then download this package. It has all the stuff we need. Extract it on your PC so you can easily use the files inside.
- Next step is, remove your phone’s battery and back cover. Prepare the USB data cable but dont connect the phone yet.
How to flash Recovery
- Run the Smart Phone Flash Tool application. Click on the “Scatter loading” button and then browse/select the MT6577_Android_scatter_emmc.txt file that you can find on the extracted package that you had downloaded.
- Then there will be a file list, be sure to just put a check on the RECOVERY and make sure that the path to the recovery.img is correct.
- Click the “Download” button and then confirm.
- Now, connect the phone.
- Attach the battery.
- The Flash Tool will now start doing the flashing process, just wait till you get a “success” notice or green circle. After that, your phone will restart.
- You just had successfully installed recovery on your JiaYu G3.

With recovery mode enabled on your JY-G3, just like any Android device you can now install updates/mods easily on your device. Most of these usually need to be installed via recovery mode.
- Turn off the JY-G3.
- Hold down power button + volume up.
How to Root JiaYu G3 (via recovery)
- Copy the file JYG3-ROOT.zip on the root of your SD card.
- Then enter into recovery mode.
- It is Chinese, but select the option: “从SD卡上安装刷机包”. It means, install from SD.
- Then browse for the JYG3-ROOT.zip file on your SD card’s root.
- Select “是–刷入JYG3-ROOT.zip”. It means “flash JYG3-ROOT.zip”.
- Your phone will do its work now and will return to recovery mode’s home.
- Restart your JY-G3.

I do not have my JiaYu G3 yet, but this is awesome to know that there is already a working recovery and rooting procedure on this phone. Too bad that some units on the first batch of JiaYu G3 was released with screen problems, thus adding further delays on the coming of the next batch for us.

It’s almost the same methode like the Hapai X710D MTK6577.
The only difference is that for the G3 only (chinese) recovery is flashed and a zip file for root.
For x710d besides (english) recovery also bootimg, logo, mbr and preloader for root.
Could it be possible to use this (english) recovery from x710d for the G3 and the zip for root like before. Both CPU are MTK6577

I cannot make a mirror now because I dont have a good internet connection. but you can easily download the file on the chinese site link. just click on the check box to mark the file and an icon for download will appear. just click it then so your download will start.

ignore it. it wont hurt unless you only had put a check on the RECOVERY part.
Does this ROM include a custom kernel wich allow me to overclock the cpu?
I think its not a ROM file bro, just a recovery.img file.

when attached, while phone is off, check the “Device Manager” of your PC. look for a driver with an exclamation mark. then try to install this drivers:

restart pc and try to do the same thing starting from loading the scatter file.

Hi Ian, I have the same issue. My phone is rooted via the other method, but I want the CWM recovery to be working!
If I press restart, the phone will never boot again…Battery removal is working.
Can you help me somehow?
Same problem as Simon Say, tried with different os’s (vista and W7) without success. rooted with the alternative way, but i’m still looking forward CWM recvovery to work.

I’m in the exact same spot as Simon except I did not attempt todownload suggested driver fro 4shared as I don’t have an account. It seems windows (xp) still doesn’t recognize my phone when plugged in. I noticed new usb folder within sp flash tool folder. Should I attempt to installthis? yes you can try. in case you still dont get the drivers installed, you can try moborobo to install drivers, and then proceed on using the root many android method, the one with RunMe.bat file.^^

have you extracted the files somewhere?
try downloading another archive of flash tool.
kind of weird problem you got there.
if all else fail, just use the root many android method where you just need to run a RunMe.bat file.
I had the same problem as Easter3: an Access Violation at address 005B0586 in module Flash_tool.exe. Write of address 00000000 error. I was running as administrator too (Win 7). Were you able to get it working? I’ll try downloading the flash tool pack again.

i have installed recovery in my jiayu g3
but when i entered i coudln’t see any text on the recovery except the picture of robbot
even i pressed home button but nothing happen.

Please help me get back my Jiayu G3. I bought the version with the battery problem from Aliexpress and the company who sold me the phone simply refused to respond to my request to help me upgrade to the new firmware. In my effort to try to do it on my own, I entered into trouble. Now the phone does not boot. It will just show the round Jiayu icon and stop there. I tried updating it using SP Flash Tool and I get the following error message:

if flashing stops, try this:
after you press download and before connecting your turned off g3 on the cable to your pc, press and hold the power button and the volume up together. dont release it yet until the flashing starts again. try it.
I have tried the above step, yet the problem persists. The flashing stops with the above error message. Any other suggestions please?

i got a really big problem with my jiayu g3. could you give me a good solution?
when i tried to boot new rom that has a ‘recovery.img’,
the rom booting was failure. and the recovery.img was broken.
so now i can’t entry to recovery mode and can’t use mobile phone as well.
and when i used the flash tool, got a same error with them(BROM ERROR: S_DA_SOC_CHECK_FAI 3103
ㅜ.ㅜ please help me what should i do~~
maybe drivers isnt installed properly when flashing? or try to flash a whole new jiayu g3 rom, not just the recovery.img
Hi Ian, I managed to root my Jiayu G3 using root_with_restore_by_bin4ry_v17..but when I reboot into recovery I get a sleeping android with a red “!”..phone dead..have to remove battery to boot again into normal mode..please advise how to reboot into recovery..thanks,

maybe you can try replacing the stock recovery, you can easily flash a recovery.img on your rooted g3 by mobileuncle tools
Your help needed badly..my Jiayu G3 cannot load on start-up..the logo lights up then “JIAYU” and it hangs there..what has happened? Is the phone “bricked”? Please assist..Thanks..
you have to make recovery ,or reload the rom again
